With the release of Kesari Chapter 2 on Friday, actor Akshay Kumar made known that his work in the movie goes beyond him being an actor, declaring that he's working for India itself through this endeavor.
On Instagram, Akshay posted some stills from the movie, which also stars Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan. In his caption, he wrote in Hindi:
You must have heard countless stories, but this is a tempest. C. Sankaran Nair's tale made a profound impression on me because we didn't realize that after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, one man was able to bring the whole British Empire to court and compelled them to bend.
Going ahead with his caption, Akshay said, "In Kesari Chapter 2, I'm not just acting as an artist, but as an Indian. This isn't a movie… it's a half-written story, a bittersweet memory… and in the end — it's about justice. Kesari Chapter 2 is currently playing at your local cinemas."
The movie, which is named Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, has been directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and has been produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films. The movie is a spiritual sequel to the 2019 movie Kesari, and its storyline has been taken from the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The movie is about C. Sankaran Nair's judicial fight following the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Besides Akshay Kumar, the film also features R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. The film came out on April 18, 2025, to coincide with the 106th anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh's sad incidence.
The original Kesari film, with Akshay also starring in it, was helmed by Anurag Singh and illustrated the Battle of Saragarhi in 1897, wherein 21 British Indian Army Sikh soldiers battled against 10,000 Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen.
Pre-film promotions saw Akshay and Ananya visit the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh on April 14 as a tribute to the martyrs.
